Instructions
- In a bowl, combine warm milk and yeast, letting it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, and salt.
- Add the yeast mixture, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients and mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Once risen, punch down the dough and roll it out to about 1/2 inch thickness.
- Cut out circles using a cookie cutter and place them on a floured surface to rise for another 30 minutes.
- Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C).
- Fry the donuts in batches until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes on each side.
- Remove from oil and drain on paper towels, then fill with your choice of filling and dust with powdered sugar before serving.
