Description

Chai-Spiced Apple Babka is a delicious twist on the traditional babka, infused with warm chai spices and filled with sweet apple filling.


Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk, warmed
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cardamom
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 2 cups apples, peeled and diced
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, yeast, and salt.
  2. In another bowl, mix warm milk, melted butter, and eggs.
  3. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and knead until smooth.
  4. Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour.
  5. In a separate bowl, mix diced apples, brown sugar, lemon juice, and spices.
  6. Roll out the dough into a rectangle and spread the apple mixture evenly on top.
  7. Roll the dough tightly and cut it in half lengthwise.
  8. Twist the two halves together and place in a greased loaf pan.
  9. Let it rise again for 30 minutes.
  10. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, use a mix of different apples.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature.
