- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1 cup warm water
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1–2 tablespoons milk (for glaze)
Instructions
- Dissolve the yeast: Pour warm water into a bowl, sprinkle the yeast, and let sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
- Mix the dough: In a mixing bowl, combine flour, 1/4 cup granulated sugar, and salt; create a well, add olive oil and yeast mixture, and mix until sticky.
- Knead the dough: Transfer to a floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place dough in a greased bowl, cover with a kitchen towel, and let it rise for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Roll the risen dough into a rectangle about 1/2 inch thick, brushing the surface with melted butter.
- Mix cinnamon and brown sugar in a bowl and sprinkle evenly over dough.
- Roll dough tightly into a log, slice it into swirls, and arrange in a greased baking dish.
- Cover and let the swirls rise for another 30 minutes.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
- Drizzle the glaze made of powdered sugar and milk over warm focaccia.
Notes
For added richness, serve with cream cheese frosting or enjoy with coffee and fresh fruit.
