Description

A deliciously moist coffee cake swirled with cinnamon and topped with a creamy frosting, perfect for breakfast or dessert.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  4. Stir in the sour cream and vanilla extract.
  5. In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  6. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  7. In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar and cinnamon.
  8. Pour half of the batter into the prepared pan, sprinkle with half of the cinnamon mixture, then add the remaining batter and top with the rest of the cinnamon mixture.
  9. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  10. While the cake is baking, prepare the cream cheese frosting by beating together the cream cheese, powdered sugar, and milk until smooth.
  11. Once the cake has cooled, spread the cream cheese frosting on top.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, use brown sugar in the cake batter.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
  • This cake can be made a day in advance for better flavor.
