Coconut Shock Shot

  • Author: Jessica
  • Total Time: 5 minutes

Ingredients

These ingredients come together to form a powerhouse of flavor:

  • ???? 1 oz coconut rum – adds that tropical coconut base

  • ½ oz vodka – brings the “shock” and balance

  • ???? ½ oz cream of coconut – thick, sweet, and luxurious

  • ???? ½ oz Irish cream liqueur (optional) – for extra smoothness and depth

  • ???? ½ tsp simple syrup (optional, for sweeter versions)

  • ???? Ice, for shaking

  • ???? Toasted shredded coconut, for garnish

  • ???? Chocolate drizzle, optional rim

  • ???? Tiny pineapple wedge or maraschino cherry, for flair

Instructions

Step 1: Chill your glassware
Pop your shot glasses or mini dessert cups into the freezer while prepping your ingredients. A frosty glass adds sophistication and texture.

Step 2: Prepare the shaker
Add ice to a cocktail shaker. Pour in:

  • 1 oz coconut rum

  • ½ oz vodka

  • ½ oz cream of coconut

  • Optional: ½ oz Irish cream and/or ½ tsp simple syrup for richness or sweetness.

Step 3: Shake until icy cold
Shake vigorously for 15–20 seconds. The cream of coconut needs good agitation to blend smoothly with the alcohol.

Step 4: Prepare garnishes (optional)
Rim shot glasses with chocolate syrup or dip them into coconut flakes. Toasted coconut adds a nutty, aromatic layer.

Step 5: Strain and serve
Strain into chilled glasses. Top with a sprinkle of toasted coconut or a fruit garnish, and serve immediately.

Notes

These shots are forgiving and customizable, but here are a few pro tips:

  • Always shake hard—the cream of coconut needs to fully emulsify with the alcohol.

  • Strain finely to remove any solid coconut bits from the drink unless you like a textured finish.

  • Make a double or triple batch in a large shaker or pitcher if prepping for guests.
