Description

Creamed spinach is a rich and creamy side dish featuring vibrant spinach enveloped in a silky butter and cream sauce, perfect for any meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds fresh spinach
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Nutmeg (optional)

Instructions

  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a rolling boil. Add the spinach and cook for approximately 2–3 minutes until the leaves wilt down. Carefully drain and set aside.
  2. Rinse the spinach under cold water right after draining to stop the cooking process.
  3. In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about one minute.
  4. Stir in the heavy cream and gently bring to a simmer, watching as it thickens.
  5. Add the drained spinach back into the skillet and mix well.
  6. Gradually stir in the grated Parmesan cheese, season with salt, pepper, and a pinch of nutmeg.
  7. Cook everything together for an additional 2–3 minutes until heated through.
  8. Serve warm, scooping portions into bowls.

Notes

Make-ahead tips: Prepare the spinach and cream separately, then mix and reheat before serving. Avoid overcooking the spinach to maintain its vibrant color.
