Description

Delight in freshly baked crusty mini baguettes with a golden-brown exterior and soft, warm interior, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 packet active dry yeast (2 1/4 teaspoons)
  • 3/4 cup warm water (about 110°F/43°C)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 egg (optional, for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Activate the Yeast: Mix warm water, sugar, and yeast in a mixing bowl; let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. Make the Dough: Add flour and salt to the yeast mixture, stirring with a wooden spoon until a shaggy dough forms.
  3. Knead the Dough: Transfer to a lightly floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. First Rise: Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm spot until doubled in size (1-1.5 hours).
  5. Shape the Baguettes: Punch down the dough, divide into four pieces, and form into small baguette shapes.
  6. Second Rise: Arrange on a baking sheet, cover, and let rise for 30-45 minutes until puffy.
  7. Add Egg Wash and Score: Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Brush with egg wash and make diagonal slashes on top of each.
  8. Bake: Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown; they should sound hollow when tapped.
  9. Cool and Serve: Cool on a wire rack for at least 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

For extra flavor, consider adding herbs or spices to the dough. Refrigerate the dough after the first rise if needed. Store leftovers in a bread bag at room temperature for up to two days.
