- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1/2 cup crispy fried onions
Instructions
- Cook the macaroni according to package instructions; drain and set aside.
- In a large pot, melt butter over medium heat and add sliced onions. Cook until caramelized, about 15-20 minutes.
- Sprinkle flour over the onions and stir to combine, cooking for an additional 2 minutes.
- Gradually whisk in beef broth and bring to a simmer, then add heavy cream and stir until smooth.
- Stir in the cooked macaroni and mix well.
- Add Gruyère and mozzarella cheese, stirring until melted and creamy.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Transfer to a serving bowl and top with crispy fried onions.

- For a vegetarian version, substitute beef broth with vegetable broth.
