Greek Baklava is a heavenly dessert that combines layers of flaky phyllo pastry with a rich, spiced nut filling, all drenched in a sweet honey syrup. Ingredients
- Phyllo Dough: 1 package (16 oz), thawed
- Walnuts: 2 cups, finely chopped
- Pistachios: 1 cup, finely chopped
- Ground Cinnamon: 1 teaspoon
- Unsalted Butter: 1 cup (2 sticks), melted
- Honey: 1 cup
- Granulated Sugar: 1 cup
- Water: 1 cup
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a bowl, mix the chopped walnuts, pistachios, and cinnamon.
- Brush a 9×13 inch baking dish with melted butter.
- Layer 8 sheets of phyllo dough in the dish, brushing each layer with melted butter.
- Spread a thin layer of the nut mixture over the phyllo.
- Repeat layering with 4 sheets of phyllo, followed by more nut mixture, until all ingredients are used, finishing with 8 layers of phyllo on top.
- Using a sharp knife, cut the baklava into diamond shapes.
- Bake for 45-50 minutes or until golden brown and crisp.
- While baklava is baking, combine honey, sugar, and water in a saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes.
- Once baklava is done, pour the hot syrup over it and let it soak for at least 4 hours before serving.
