Description
The Honey Sriracha Chicken Sandwich Melt is a tantalizing blend of juicy, crispy chicken coated in a sweet and spicy honey sriracha sauce, all nestled between two slices of perfectly toasted bread. The melty cheese adds a creamy texture that balances the heat, while the fresh toppings provide a burst of flavor with every bite.
Ingredients
Scale
- For the Chicken:
- 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (about 1 pound)
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- Salt and pepper to taste
- For the Sauce:
- 1/4 cup honey
- 1/4 cup sriracha sauce
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- For Assembly:
- 4 slices of sourdough bread
- 4 slices of cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup shredded lettuce
- 1/2 cup sliced tomatoes
Instructions
- Marinate the chicken breasts in buttermilk for at least 1 hour, or overnight for best results.
- Preheat the oil in a deep fryer or large skillet to 350°F (175°C).
- In a shallow dish, mix flour, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
- Remove chicken from buttermilk, allowing excess to drip off, then dredge in the flour mixture until fully coated.
- Fry the chicken for 6-8 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and cooked through (internal temperature should reach 165°F/74°C).
- While the chicken is frying, combine honey, sriracha, and soy sauce in a small saucepan over medium heat. Stir until well mixed and heated through.
- Once the chicken is cooked, toss it in the honey sriracha sauce until fully coated.
- Assemble the sandwich by placing a slice of cheese on one piece of bread, followed by the sauced chicken, lettuce, and tomato, then top with another slice of cheese and bread.
- Grill the sandwich in a skillet over medium heat for 3-4 minutes on each side, or until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted.
Notes
- This sandwich can be made ahead by preparing the chicken and sauce in advance; store them separately in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
- Leftover sandwiches can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days; reheat in a skillet to maintain crispiness.
- For a gluten-free option, substitute all-purpose flour with a gluten-free flour blend and use gluten-free bread.
