- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ¼ cup milk
- ½ cup brown sugar, packed
- 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
- ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
- 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
- ¼ cup unsalted butter, softened (for frosting)
- 1½ cups powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for frosting)
- 2–3 tablespoons milk (for frosting)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease your 9×13-inch baking pan.
- Cream the butter and sugar in a large bowl until light and fluffy.
- Add eggs and vanilla, mixing until combined.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients, alternating with milk, mixing until just combined.
- Spread half of the batter into the prepared baking pan.
- Combine brown sugar and cinnamon with melted butter, then spoon over the batter.
- Add remaining batter on top and swirl with a knife.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Cool completely on a wire rack before frosting.
- For frosting, beat cream cheese and butter until smooth, then add powdered sugar and vanilla, adjusting milk for consistency.
- Spread frosting over cooled bars, then cut into squares and serve.
Notes
Can be made a day in advance and stored in the fridge. Consider adding nuts or chocolate chips for variation.
