Ingredients

Scale
  • For the Mac and Cheese:
    • 8 oz elbow macaroni
    • 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
    • 1 cup milk
    • 2 tbsp butter
    • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
    • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
    • 1/2 tsp onion powder
    • Salt and pepper to taste
  • For the Rolls:
    • 1 lb ground beef
    • 8 slices of cooked bacon, chopped
    • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
    • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
    • Salt and pepper to taste
    • 1 package of egg roll wrappers
    • Oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Cook the elbow macaroni according to package instructions until al dente, then drain and set aside.
  2. In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat, whisk in flour, and cook for 1-2 minutes until golden.
  3. Gradually add milk, stirring constantly until the mixture thickens, about 5 minutes.
  4. Stir in cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper until smooth. Mix in the cooked macaroni and set aside to cool.
  5. In a skillet, cook ground beef over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat, then stir in chopped bacon, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper.
  6. Lay an egg roll wrapper on a clean surface, place a spoonful of mac and cheese and a spoonful of the beef mixture in the center, and roll tightly, sealing the edges with water.
  7. Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C). Fry the rolls in batches until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes per side.
  8. Remove from oil and drain on paper towels before serving.

Notes

  • Make-ahead: Prepare the mac and cheese and beef mixture a day in advance and assemble the rolls just before frying.
  • Storage: Store leftover rolls in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • Substitutions: Use turkey bacon for a lighter option or swap out cheddar for your favorite cheese.
