- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger

- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
- 4 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup buttermilk
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- Whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and salt in a medium bowl.
- Cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy—about 3–5 minutes.
- Add the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
- Stir in the vanilla extract.
- Gradually add the flour mixture, alternating with the buttermilk, starting and ending with the flour mixture.
- Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
- Beat together cream cheese, softened butter, and vanilla until smooth, then gradually add powdered sugar until fluffy.
- Frost the cooled cake layers and serve.
Notes
Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week or freeze for up to three months.
