Painkiller Cocktail Recipe

  • Author: Jessica
  • Total Time: 5 minutes

Ingredients

  • 2 oz dark or aged rum: Traditionally, Pusser’s Rum is the classic choice for its rich, full-bodied flavor, but any good quality dark or aged rum will work beautifully.

  • 4 oz pineapple juice: Freshly pressed is best, but high-quality bottled juice is perfectly fine.

  • 1 oz cream of coconut: Coco López is the most famous brand, lending a smooth and sweet coconut flavor.

  • 1 oz fresh orange juice: Fresh-squeezed orange juice adds bright citrus notes that balance the sweetness.

  • Crushed ice: To chill and slightly dilute the cocktail, enhancing its refreshing qualities.

  • Freshly grated nutmeg: The signature finishing touch, giving warmth and aromatic complexity.

  • Pineapple wedge and maraschino cherry: For garnish, adding visual appeal and extra fruity flavor.

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare Your Cocktail Shaker

Start by filling your cocktail shaker halfway with crushed ice. This ensures the cocktail will be perfectly chilled without becoming watered down too quickly.

Step 2: Add the Ingredients

Pour in 2 ounces of your chosen dark or aged rum, followed by 4 ounces of pineapple juice, 1 ounce of cream of coconut, and 1 ounce of freshly squeezed orange juice.

Step 3: Shake Vigorously

Put the lid on your shaker and shake vigorously for about 15 seconds. This chills the drink thoroughly and blends the ingredients into a smooth, harmonious mixture.

Step 4: Prepare the Glass

Fill a tall hurricane glass or tiki mug with crushed ice. The crushed ice is essential to maintain the cocktail’s coolness and enhance its tropical presentation.

Step 5: Strain and Pour

Strain the cocktail mixture from your shaker into the prepared glass over the crushed ice, letting it cascade beautifully.

Step 6: Garnish with Nutmeg and Fruit

Sprinkle freshly grated nutmeg generously on top — this aromatic spice is the cocktail’s signature touch. Add a pineapple wedge and a maraschino cherry on the rim for a colorful, festive finish.
