Ingredients
These ingredients come together to form a powerhouse of flavor:
-
???? 1 oz pineapple juice – fresh or canned, this delivers tropical sweetness
-
???? 1 oz vanilla vodka – captures that rich cake flavor
-
???? ½ tsp grenadine – adds color, sweetness, and the signature cherry twist
-
???? Ice – for chilling and shaking
-
???? Pineapple wedge or maraschino cherry, for garnish (optional)
-
???? Optional: Whipped cream for a dessert-style finish
Instructions
Step 1: Chill the shot glass
Place your shot glass in the freezer for a few minutes, or fill it with ice water to chill while you prepare the ingredients.
Step 2: Combine vodka and juice
In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, add:
-
1 oz vanilla vodka
-
1 oz pineapple juice
Shake vigorously for about 10–15 seconds until well chilled.
Step 3: Strain into shot glass
Discard the ice or water from your chilled shot glass. Strain the vodka-pineapple mix into the glass.
Step 4: Add the grenadine
Using a bar spoon or by gently tilting the glass, pour ½ tsp grenadine down the side of the glass. It will sink to the bottom, forming that stunning red “cake base” layer.
Step 5: Garnish and serve
Add a maraschino cherry or tiny pineapple wedge on the rim. Serve immediately while chilled.
Notes
This shot is simple and forgiving, but a few techniques ensure perfect results:
-
Shake with plenty of ice to get the mix very cold—it enhances the dessert feel.
-
Pour the grenadine gently and slowly—too fast, and it will mix instead of layering.
-
Let the layers sit for 30 seconds before garnishing to keep the presentation clean
