Description
A delightful fusion of a classic grilled cheese and pizza, featuring gooey cheeses, zesty marinara, and customizable toppings, all nestled between crispy slices of bread.
Ingredients
Scale
- 8 slices sturdy bread (such as sourdough or Texas toast)
- 1 cup (4 oz) shredded low-moisture mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup (2 oz) shredded provolone cheese
- 1/4 cup (1 oz) grated Parmesan cheese
- Optional extras: 1/4 cup shredded mild cheddar or Monterey Jack, 1/4 cup mini beef pepperoni, sautéed veggies, fresh basil, or dried oregano
- 4–6 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
- 2 tbsp mayonnaise (optional)
- Marinara sauce for dipping
Instructions
- Prepare ingredients by softening butter and mixing it with mayonnaise if desired. Grate cheeses and prepare toppings.
- Spread butter on one side of each bread slice. On the unbuttered side, add 1-2 tablespoons of pizza sauce, followed by a generous layer of cheese and optional toppings.
- Top with remaining bread slices, buttered-side up, and gently press to secure.
- Preheat skillet over medium-low heat, grill the sandwiches for 4-6 minutes per side until golden and cheese is melted. Cover for the last few minutes to ensure melting.
- Allow sandwiches to rest for 2-3 minutes, slice diagonally, and serve with warm marinara for dipping.
Notes
Customize the sandwich with your favorite toppings or explore different cheese combinations. Make sure to drain any sautéed veggies to prevent sogginess.
