Description

  • Discover how to make a vibrant rainbow cocktail with alcohol! This layered drink is perfect for parties, pride celebrations, and summer nights.

Ingredients

Scale

To make one 12–16 oz glass of the classic 6-layer rainbow cocktail:

🍒 Red Layer:

  • ¾ oz grenadine (heaviest layer, sinks to bottom)

🍊 Orange Layer:

  • ¾ oz orange juice (or mango juice)

🍍 Yellow Layer:

  • ¾ oz pineapple juice (lighter than orange juice)

💚 Green Layer:

  • ¾ oz melon liqueur (like Midori)

💙 Blue Layer:

  • ¾ oz blue curaçao

💜 Violet Layer:

  • ¾ oz vodka + splash of cranberry or grape juice (mixed before pouring)

Instructions

🌈 Step 1: Start with the Red Base

Add ¾ oz grenadine to the bottom of your glass. It’s the heaviest ingredient, so it will naturally settle.

🧊 Step 2: Add Ice (Carefully)

Gently fill the glass with ice. Adding ice now will help slow the pour of the following layers, aiding in separation.

🍊 Step 3: Layer Orange Juice

Slowly pour ¾ oz orange juice over the back of a spoon. The spoon should hover just above the grenadine layer. Pour slowly and steadily so the liquids don’t mix.

🍍 Step 4: Add Pineapple Juice

Using the same spoon technique, add ¾ oz pineapple juice. This will form your yellow layer.

💚 Step 5: Pour Green Layer

Add ¾ oz melon liqueur (like Midori) carefully with a spoon. The color contrast begins to pop beautifully here.

💙 Step 6: Add Blue Curaçao

Next, layer ¾ oz blue curaçao, again using the back of a spoon. You’re nearly at rainbow perfection.

💜 Step 7: Top with Vodka + Cranberry/Grape

In a shaker or small cup, mix ¾ oz vodka with a splash of grape or cranberry juice to achieve a violet hue. Gently spoon it on top as the final layer.

Notes

✔️ Use the back of a spoon: This helps slow the pour so the liquids don’t mix.
✔️ Order by density: Start with heaviest (grenadine) and end with lightest (vodka + juice).
✔️ Chill your liquids: Cold liquids layer more easily.
