Discover how to make a vibrant rainbow cocktail with alcohol! This layered drink is perfect for parties, pride celebrations, and summer nights.
Ingredients
To make one 12–16 oz glass of the classic 6-layer rainbow cocktail:
🍒 Red Layer:
-
¾ oz grenadine (heaviest layer, sinks to bottom)
🍊 Orange Layer:
-
¾ oz orange juice (or mango juice)
🍍 Yellow Layer:
-
¾ oz pineapple juice (lighter than orange juice)
💚 Green Layer:
-
¾ oz melon liqueur (like Midori)
💙 Blue Layer:
-
¾ oz blue curaçao
💜 Violet Layer:
-
¾ oz vodka + splash of cranberry or grape juice (mixed before pouring)
Instructions
Add ¾ oz grenadine to the bottom of your glass. It’s the heaviest ingredient, so it will naturally settle.
Gently fill the glass with ice. Adding ice now will help slow the pour of the following layers, aiding in separation.
Slowly pour ¾ oz orange juice over the back of a spoon. The spoon should hover just above the grenadine layer. Pour slowly and steadily so the liquids don’t mix.
Using the same spoon technique, add ¾ oz pineapple juice. This will form your yellow layer.
Add ¾ oz melon liqueur (like Midori) carefully with a spoon. The color contrast begins to pop beautifully here.
Next, layer ¾ oz blue curaçao, again using the back of a spoon. You’re nearly at rainbow perfection.
In a shaker or small cup, mix ¾ oz vodka with a splash of grape or cranberry juice to achieve a violet hue. Gently spoon it on top as the final layer.
Notes
✔️ Use the back of a spoon: This helps slow the pour so the liquids don’t mix.
✔️ Order by density: Start with heaviest (grenadine) and end with lightest (vodka + juice).
✔️ Chill your liquids: Cold liquids layer more easily.
