Ingredients
Scale
- Blondie Base:
- 1 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- Salted Caramel:
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 6 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon sea salt
- Pretzel Topping:
- 1 cup pretzel pieces
- 1/4 cup coarse sea salt for sprinkling
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking pan.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the melted butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until smooth.
- Add the eggs and vanilla extract, mixing until fully incorporated.
- In a separate bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add this dry mixture to the wet ingredients, stirring until just combined.
- Fold in the pretzel pieces, reserving a handful for topping.
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan, spreading it evenly.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the edges are golden and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
- While the blondies are baking, prepare the salted caramel by heating the granulated sugar in a saucepan over medium heat, stirring constantly until it melts and turns a deep amber color.
- Remove from heat and carefully whisk in the butter and heavy cream until smooth. Stir in the sea salt.
- Once the blondies are done, remove them from the oven and drizzle the salted caramel over the top, then sprinkle with reserved pretzel pieces and additional sea salt.
- Let cool completely before cutting into squares.
Notes
- These blondies can be made ahead of time and stored in an airtight container for up to 5 days.
- For longer storage, freeze the blondies for up to 3 months. Thaw at room temperature before serving.
- You can substitute the pretzels with crushed graham crackers for a different texture.
