- 4 large potatoes, thinly sliced
- 2 cups cooked ham, diced
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup milk
- ¼ cup butter
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Paprika for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Sauté the onions and garlic until translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
- Combine heavy cream and milk in a mixing bowl, seasoning with salt and pepper. Whisk until blended.
- Grease your baking dish generously, then layer half of the sliced potatoes, half of the ham, and half of the cheese. Repeat and finish with the last of the cheese.
- Pour the cream mixture evenly over the layers.
- Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes to form a golden crust.
- Garnish with paprika before serving.
Notes
Make-ahead tips: Assemble the dish the night before and bake it fresh in the morning. You can also substitute ham with rotisserie chicken.
