Volcano in a Vase

  • Author: Jessica
  • Total Time: 10 minutes

Ingredients

These ingredients come together to form a powerhouse of flavor:

  • ????️ 1 oz chili-infused tequila or mezcal – brings the heat and smokiness

  • ???? 1 oz elderflower liqueur (like St-Germain) – soft floral notes

  • ???? 1 oz pineapple juice – juicy tropical sweetness

  • ???? ¾ oz blood orange juice or fresh orange juice – adds citrus depth

  • ???? ½ oz honey syrup (1:1 honey and warm water) – smooth sweetness

  • ???? ¾ oz fresh lemon juice – for bright acidity

  • ???? Ice cubes, as needed

  • ???? Top with sparkling water or champagne (optional for fizz)

  • ???? Edible flower petals, for garnish

  • ???? Mint or basil leaves, for fresh aroma

  • ???? Dehydrated citrus wheel, torched before serving (optional but dramatic)

  • ???? (Optional) Dry ice chip for a smoky lava effect (use with caution)

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare honey syrup
Mix equal parts honey and warm water. Stir until dissolved. Set aside to cool.

Step 2: Build your cocktail
In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, add:

  • 1 oz chili-infused tequila or mezcal

  • 1 oz elderflower liqueur

  • 1 oz pineapple juice

  • ¾ oz orange juice

  • ¾ oz lemon juice

  • ½ oz honey syrup

Shake vigorously for 15 seconds until chilled.

Step 3: Strain and pour
Strain into a stemmed glass, vase-style goblet, or coupe glass filled with fresh ice or a large clear cube.

Step 4: Add the flair
Top with sparkling water or champagne for lift, if desired. Garnish with a bouquet of edible flowers, mint, or basil. For theatrical effect, lightly torch a dehydrated citrus wheel and place it gently on top.

Step 5: (Optional)
Carefully add a dry ice pellet for bubbling volcanic vapor—serve immediately with a straw and do not consume dry ice directly.

Notes

These flavor elements are well balanced, but here’s how to make them shine:

  • Infuse your own chili tequila by soaking sliced jalapeños or Thai chilis in blanco tequila for 1–2 days.

  • Use freshly squeezed juices for best brightness. Bottled versions dull the taste.

  • Honey syrup adds body without being cloying—don’t skip it.
