Ingredients
Scale
- 1 large sweet onion (like Vidalia or Walla Walla)
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 cup breadcrumbs (preferably panko)
- Cooking spray
- Dipping sauce of your choice
Instructions
- Cut and prepare the onion by slicing off the top and peeling the outer skin.
- Slice the onion into petal-like cuts, being careful not to cut through the bottom.
- Mix the flour, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper in a large mixing bowl.
- Dip the onion into the buttermilk, ensuring each petal gets soaked.
- Coat the onion in the flour mixture thoroughly, allowing it to rest for a moment.
- Double dip the onion into the buttermilk again and roll it in breadcrumbs for extra crispiness.
- Air fry at 375°F (190°C) for 20-25 minutes until golden brown, lightly spraying with cooking spray.
- Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
Notes
Make ahead by preparing the onion and refrigerating it before air frying for improved flavor absorption.
