Description
Experience the delightful contrast of crispy fried chicken with a sweet and spicy hot honey drizzle in this comforting yet exciting dish.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 chicken breasts (bone-in, skin-on preferred)
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Oil for frying
- 1/2 cup honey
- 1–2 teaspoons red pepper flakes (adjust to taste)
- 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
Instructions
- Marinate the chicken: In a bowl, place the chicken breasts and pour over the buttermilk. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
- Prepare the coating: Whisk together the flour, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper in another bowl.
- Heat the oil: Pour enough oil into a frying pan to cover the bottom—about ½ inch. Heat over medium until shimmering.
- Dredge the chicken: Remove the chicken from the buttermilk, allowing excess to drip off. Dredge each piece in the flour mixture, shaking off excess flour.
- Fry the chicken: Place the chicken in the hot oil, frying for about 5-7 minutes per side until golden brown and cooked through.
- Make the hot honey: In a small saucepan, combine honey, red pepper flakes, and apple cider vinegar. Heat gently and stir to mix the flavors.
- Plate and drizzle: Once cooked, let the chicken rest on a paper towel and drizzle warm hot honey over it before serving.
Notes
For extra flavor, marinate the chicken overnight and consider adding lemon zest or fresh herbs to your hot honey.
