- 2 cups dried navy beans
- 1 onion, diced
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 1/4 cup molasses
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 5 cups water
- 1 tablespoon mustard
- 1/2 cup bacon, cooked and crumbled (optional)
Instructions
- Rinse the dried beans under cold water until the water runs clear. Soak them overnight in plenty of water.
- Drain and rinse the soaked beans before moving on to the next step.
- Stir together the soaked beans, diced onion, brown sugar, ketchup, molasses, salt, pepper, mustard, and crumbled bacon in your crockpot.
- Pour in the 5 cups of water, ensuring the beans are completely submerged.
- Gently stir to combine, ensuring each bean is coated.
- Cover the crockpot and cook on low for 8-10 hours.
- Taste the baked beans before serving and adjust seasoning as needed.
- Serve warm, straight from the pot.
Notes
These baked beans can be made a day in advance and taste better after sitting. For quicker preparation, use a pressure cooker for approximately 30-40 minutes.
