Description

Golden brown butter lemon bars feature a tender buttery crust with a rich, nutty aroma from brown butter and a tart lemon filling that balances sweetness.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup fresh lemon juice
  • Zest of 2 lemons
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Powdered sugar for dusting
  • 1 cup strawberries (for glaze)
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×9-inch baking dish.
  2. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat until golden brown.
  3. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  4. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the granulated sugar and eggs until creamy.
  5. Stir in the fresh lemon juice and zest.
  6. Pour in the golden brown butter and fold gently until combined.
  7. Sift the flour and salt over the mixture, mixing until just combined.
  8. Spread the batter into the prepared baking dish.
  9. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until edges are golden and a toothpick comes out clean.
  10. While the bars bake, blend strawberries for the glaze and mix with powdered sugar.
  11. Once bars cool, drizzle with strawberry glaze and dust with powdered sugar.
  12. Cut into squares and serve chilled or at room temperature.

Notes

These bars can be made a day in advance. They keep well in the fridge for up to a week or can be frozen for longer storage.
