Description

Mongolian beef features tender strips of beef caramelized in a glossy sauce of soy sauce and brown sugar, elevated by garlic and ginger, and topped with crunchy green onions.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb beef strips (flank steak or sirloin)
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 inch ginger, minced
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 cup green onions, chopped

Instructions

  1. Combine the soy sauce, brown sugar, water, cornstarch, and black pepper in a mixing bowl. Whisk until well blended.
  2. Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the beef strips and sauté until browned on all sides, about 3-4 minutes.
  3. Add the minced garlic and ginger to the skillet and cook for an additional minute.
  4. Pour the sauce mixture over the beef and stir well to coat evenly.
  5. Cook until the sauce thickens, about 3-5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  6. Stir in the chopped green onions, then serve hot over rice.
